Hello! We are Amy and Sarah, sisters who love to Travel.

Story & Place is a collection of photos and favorites from our trips, with recaps and recommendations, featuring the type of suggestions we would like to have during our own trip-planning process. We hope you enjoy reading them!

Our love of travel has been a lifelong one. Growing up, our parents were teachers, which meant months off in the summer to spend traveling as a family. Some of our most vivid childhood memories involve fighting over legroom in the back seat of our parents’ Toyota Camry, watching whales breach in Maine, and logging in hundreds of miles between our Wisconsin hometown and the striking western vistas of the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and the Badlands. Both a blessing or a curse, we inherited our dad’s mantra that everything is pretty much “on the way” to everything else, creating some lengthy but beautiful detours. As adults, our appreciation for road trips and travel has grown taking us further afield—hiking mountains in Peru, boating through floating markets in Vietnam, and swimming the vibrant waters of the Adriatic Sea in Croatia.

These days, Amy works as a graphic designer in San Francisco and Sarah as an English teacher in the Milwaukee area. We travel together often but also separately, always adding destinations to our wish lists and planning our next getaways, near or far.

For us, part of the joy of travel is in the anticipation and planning, which is possibly our way of channeling our inner Type A personalities. We love the excitement of the early stages—filling a fresh new Google doc with advice from travel blogs and articles, finding the best recommendation buried deep within a Tripadvisor comment thread, asking for favorites from friends, and pouring over pictures on Instagram. Story & Place is our chance to document these travels pay it forward, upgrading years worth of forwarded travel emails and shared google docs into a blog that encompasses our stories of the best (and sometimes worst) of our experiences.
